Ma’Kiya Carter, Clinical Intern (She/Her)
Hey, I'm Makiya! I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space for my clients to open up, explore their inner experiences, and work towards healing. I believe that healing arises through deeply understanding each person's unique story and the experiences that have shaped them. By building an authentic, caring therapeutic relationship, we can access your inner wisdom and resilience. I specialize in treating: self identity development, romantic and familial relationships, life transitions, trauma, anxiety, and depression. My approach to therapy centers on getting to know you as a whole person, your unique story, and the emotions that shape your experiences. I utilize Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help you understand your inner world, acknowledging different parts of yourself and fostering compassion and emotional safety. I also specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples which allows me to explore your relationship dynamics and develop healthier communication patterns to promote self-awareness, self-compassion, and healing in your relationship. I am also trained in EMDR to help my clients process through complex trauma, anxiety, and depression.
I aim to connect with my clients on a human level, meeting them with empathy and warmth. Therapy is a collaborative process of insight and change. As we navigate this together, I aim to always be fully present, attuned to your needs, and committed to your growth every step of the way. I'm here to help guide you towards greater self-understanding, self-compassion, and the life you envision. I’m excited to meet you!
